Indian Linux User's Group Delhi(NCR) Meetup
Details
--------
Schedule
1:00 - 2:00 Should I go? by Muhammad Falak (https://github.com/mfrw)
We introduce golang, and answer the question of why should we learn a new language if at all.
2:30 - 3:00 Networking break
Jump in and get to know each other. Lug people are quite friendly.
3:00 - 4:00 How the Linux Desktop is Built by Jatin Kaushal (https://twitter.com/suseleap)
Windows and Mac have an opaque and monolithic User Interface, whereas Linux is more modular. This often leads to a lot of confusion for new Linux users on exactly what a DE, DM, X.org, or anything is. This can be cleared up pretty quickly if we show people how to build their own Desktop Environment from scratch. Stuff that should be covered in chronological order:
• Xorg
• Window Managers - twm for a intro, then maybe openbox, and just to show that there is another way to manage windows, i3wm or some other tiling window manager
• Login/Display Managers - Uptill now, we used startx to start the X11 desktop server. Now we can use graphical interfaces to do this for us!
• GTK toolkit/Qt toolkit
• Finally putting it all together, the Linux Desktop Environment!
4:00 - 5:30 Open session/discussion/collaboration
This section of the meetup will allow anyone to come up and speak about their work and what interesting stuff they have encountered. Feel free to start up any discussion regarding particular GNU coreutil and it's uses or doubts you may have on how a particular software/tool/protocol works.
