Don't get me wrong, Sarasota is great: The weather is amazing, and the beaches... well... they're fantastic.

I've lived most of my life here, and I think it's a tropical paradise. Unfortunately, when it comes to music, it can feel like a barren wasteland: 95% of the acts I'm interested in seeing don't come here, so I end up having to travel to Tampa, Orlando, Miami, and beyond.

I'm not trying to take a cheap shot at any of the local bands or music venues. It's just that... well... there's a whole big, beautiful world out there, and the local scene can only represent a tiny sliver of that landscape.

I don't know about you, but I'm obsessed with music. The right song at the right time can completely transform me. It could be rock, pop, punk, hip-hop, country, disco, blues, R&B, or even polka. Great music seems to transcend all boundaries, and I'm not one to put it in a cage. Instead, I'd rather just take it all in.

So... if you've got to have a larger variety of music in your life, consider showing up and sharing in the discovery.

I have no idea the direction this group will take. For starters, I'm thinking about picking a theme, meeting up someplace that doesn't mind hearing some tunes, and just let the music play.
