What we’re about

Immigrant Queer Women Meetup Group is a space for lesbian, bisexual, and queer immigrant women (including trans women) in Portland to connect, share stories, and build meaningful friendships. As immigrants, many of us know what it’s like to feel caught between cultures—navigating American life while holding onto where we come from. Being queer can add another layer of complexity, especially if we come from places where queerness isn’t accepted, or where we’ve had to hide who we are to stay safe. Even in more accepting cultures, it can still be hard to meet other queer women when immigrant communities are small or scattered. This group is here to change that. We meet once a month for casual, welcoming gatherings to talk, laugh, and support each other, and we stay connected through a group chat where we share resources and make spontaneous plans. Together, we’re creating a space where we don’t have to choose between our culture and our identity—where we can simply be ourselves and feel at home.
