August Social Good For Profit Meetup

6:30 PM: Find a seat, sip a drink, mingle!

7 PM: Hear from three incredible social good startups - - Co-Founder Talmage Cooley - It's democracy's turn for an upgrade. gives every candidate in every election a free campaign website and every voter the ability to make a difference through quick online actions. - Founder & COO Christina Rizk - By selling donated designer clothing in an exclusive, online boutique, Fashion Project is able to raise up to 100x more for nonprofits than traditional thrift stores for the items in your closet. Giving has never been this glamorous. - Co-Founder David Cascino - Social media is an easy way to say something, but it’s a difficult way to be heard. Thunderclap is the first-ever crowdspeaking platform that helps people be heard by saying something together. It allows a single message to be mass-shared, flash mob-style, so it rises above the noise of your social networks. By boosting the signal at the same time, Thunderclap helps a single person create action and change like never before.

8 PM - 9 PM: Network with passionate people changing the world through business.

I am in the Bay area and wondering who your counterpart here is? and also hoping those reading this who might need a fundraiser help will contact me if their cause addresses root sources of the problem (eg public funding of elections, stopping electronic based voting, restoring the 4th amendment, reversing Citizens United)

I'm looking forward to the event. I just launched The Book Elf. It is a DRM-free eBook sharing social network. My goal is to make sharing copyrighted ebooks as easy as sharing print books, while complying with copyright laws. Current eBook licenses actually make it illegal for the owner to share them. As a reader and former librarian this bothered me. So I set out to create a solution to the problem that would allow people to share their eBooks, but in a way that authors and publishers would find agreeable. Right now The Book Elf offers the best interface around for downloading public domain eBooks from the Internet Archive, as well as the ability to share them with your friends. I plan to make copyrighted eBooks shareable by creating a new legal framework (probably a new eBook license) that allows sharing through the site. We will gradually add copyrighted works as authors and publishers adopt our model. You can learn more at
