What we’re about

improv incubator

ABOUT

An improv gymnasium, managed/facilitated by Rick Horner, for improvisers of all experience levels, to work out and keep their skills sharp.

DESCRIPTION

incubator welcomes and encourages improvisers of all experience levels, and is open to the public. Whether you're a seasoned "pro" or an improv novice, the improv incubator is a chance to strengthen and cultivate your skills, and potentially meet future teammates.

if incubator has a theme song, it's "Ace of Spades" by Motorhead. If we have a mascot, it's any person associated with outer space engaging in earthly activities. That and Inky, the blue ghost from Pac-Man, unsurprisingly.

A few words about "newbies". It really does help if you've taken an improv class, or a couple of workshops. incubator is not necessarily the place to be taught HOW to improvise. Our goal is to provide you with opportunities to DO your improvising, and to observe and enjoy the improvising of others.
During scenes and exercises - listen and pay attention. If you are not accepting fellow players' offers, or if you're working AGAINST them rather than with them, you may distinguish yourself as someone no one wants to do scenes with. The incubator respects each individual's individuality. The incubator encourages creativity and supports every person to make the most of their abilities, whatever and wherever they may be.

If you leave the incubator as even a marginally better listener, something good will have happened.

Our intentions:

1. Everyone is welcome! This group is a safe space

2. Make others look and feel great!

3. Give love to everyone!

4. One person has the floor at a time!

5. Hate speech or bullying - demeaning a person based on characteristics such as their race, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, disability or body image, - will not be tolerated.

6. Mutual trust. Consent IRL, Consent here.

7. Maintaining a safe and respectful environment.

8. “Ouch” / “Oops”
