Citrus Greening Disease

Details

Citrus Greening Disease (HLB; Huanglongbing) is one of the most serious citrus diseases in the world, including California.
The disease has spread so quickly that in the last 10 years, Florida has seen a 50% decrease in the citrus harvest. In only Florida, the economic loss is estimated at 4.5 billion dollars.
At this time, there are no cure for this disease, but experiments with iron supplements have been shown to improve trees infected with the disease.

This session given by Tomoya Matsuyama will introduce his research on an iron fertilizer supplement named "Tetsuriki" which was developed with the help of Tokyo University to increase the iron uptake in the trees.
The Fe fertilizer has the possibility for curing the symptom of HLB. Tetsuriki might be promising tool for preventing the spread of HLB.
