CLASS: Speaking with Confidence in an Online Meeting

Nearly everyone is now required to speak online on videoconference calls, using software like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Skype or WebEx.

For many people, speaking in public is very uncomfortable. And it's worse online.

You talk into a tiny microphone on your computer. You can barely hear people. You look awful on the webcam. You don't know where to focus when you speak. Plus, the software can be confusing to navigate.

In this 80-minute class we will discuss:

- Speaking more clearly on a web conference;
- Overcoming your anxiety;
- What is good webconference etiquette;
- How to better use PowerPoint during a webconference.

The class will focus on skills specifically related to communication using online tools. We will include time for your questions.

ABOUT THE TEACHER

For more than twenty years, Tom has worked in corporate communications for firms such as TIAA-CREF and NBC Universal. Prior to that, he was a writer and editor for publications such as Backstage, Individual Investor, and TV Guide.

Tom taught English pronunciation, writing, and conversational skills at NYC's International Center for more than six years. He has a degree in English from Pace University.

Tom now works as a consultant and private tutor, helping adults to improve their language, writing and public speaking skills.
