MicroTheatre Workshop Series | English

Details

Can we condense a whole theatrical experience into 15 minutes?
Well, let's try!

We wish to start a group endeavour with theatre enthusiasts who are interested in and willing to pursue a process of setting up a micro-play and bringing their creation into the world.

The format
The name already says a lot. A microtheater play is shorter in length but not necessarily less complex. However, there is something else: the limited, intimate space in which this kind of plays is staged. So how do we use this as an element for our stories? How do they affect the emotions and events that take place in them?

The Series
Until September, we're organising a sequence of workshops that will focus on what we believe are the basics of a micro theatre play: a combination of storytelling, building up a character, elements of performance and more.

The performance
During the group's yearly celebration for this group, we all meet on the morning of September 14 and form groups on the spot based on the scripts that Nena and I will bring. The groups will have 5-6 hours to prepare and will then perform twice in the same evening. 😁 We've had masterpieces being developed in significantly less time than that - we trust you!

Time commitment

  • 1 workshop per month with everybody and debriefing about the group processes: July - August - September
  • attendance in the final event September 14

Participation
The board of Ermekeilinitiative (our lovely hosts) has decided that the several groups meeting in the space should help cover the costs of running the space, which is fair, as we've been able to use it flexibly and effectively for so many years. We’re therefore asking for a small donation of 2 EUR per person per event, though you are welcome to give more if you’d like. Every little bit helps with things like insurance, cleaning services, website maintenance, digital tools and so on. To make it easy, we’ve put a piggy bank in the kitchen area where you can drop your donations.

Some extra formalities for you

  • Wear comfortable clothes for movement.
  • This event will be fully in English.

And some things to be mindful of

  • We aim to create a safe learning environment for everybody, where the spectrum of one's identity is recognized and valued.
  • No sexism, racism, homophobia and the like get the space.
  • We ask all participants to behave respectfully towards the group during and outside the workshop.
