Across the globe, people are coming online with smaller and more varied devices including smartphones, smart watches, and gadgets. An offshoot of the International Components for Unicode (ICU) Committee, the ICU4X Committee is responsible for enabling these next-generation devices to communicate with each other in thousands of languages.

ICU4X empowers servers and applications written in Rust, JavaScript, C++, and more with lightweight, modular, and secure internationalization libraries. Join us this evening to learn how ICU4X has brought i18n to smart watches, reduced the cost of running server-side localization, and can supercharge your applications for global users.

Shane Carr is a Staff Software Engineer on the Google internationalization engineering team. He has spearheaded the development of ICU4X from inception through adoption, currently serving as chair of the ICU4X subcommittee in Unicode. Shane has previously presented at IMUG on his work in ECMAScript Internationalization standards. Shane holds Masters and Bachelors degrees from Washington University in St. Louis.
