Boca de Tomatlán to Las Animas Hike

This incredible trail starts in Boca de Tomatlán and will take you along the coast of Jalisco to Playa las Animas. You will hike through a variety of terrain that can be a bit rocky or difficult in parts, even crossing streams, so sensible footwear is suggested. Do not attempt the route at high tide, and you should expect to get wet or even swim. The first section is all uphill in the jungle. Other parts look like private property but are not. Be aware that some travelers ride horses to do the trail, and the animals leave their feces on the road. It is not always well-marked, so it is recommended that you download the map before starting.

You will reach different beaches, each more beautiful than the other, some less crowded and others more touristy. During your trip, you will pass many bars and restaurants where you can stop for something to eat or drink. Enjoy a local seafood ceviche, a few cold beers, and a rest on the soft sand or a splash in the refreshing water before continuing your tour. You will delight in the beautiful views of the sea and the surrounding jungle. You will also enjoy many opportunities to observe the wildlife of the region.

If you get tired on the hike, you can take a water taxi for a small fee to return to Boca de Tomatlán. The return this way is short and easy and will give you a beautiful and different perspective of where you were from the water.
