IFG Figure Session 1! December 5th 5-8PM at Re:Public

Come draw with us! Artists of all skill levels are welcome to join our non-instructed, open studio figure drawing class with a live nude model. The Indianapolis Figure Guild, or IFG, holds figure drawing sessions in a semi-open studio format to allow Indiana artists a space and opportunity to work on the continual development of their technical and creative skills. Each session runs for three hours two Sundays per month. RSVP at least 24 hours before a session to participate. Each session is $5 in order to pay for studio and model fees. Come draw with IFG!

Figure drawing is a time honored tradition which functions to aid an artist’s understanding of reality, humanity, and how to draw what they see. The only way to truly comprehend the complexity of the human form is to study it. Drawing is a technical skill which must be constantly honed - like a muscle that must be trained and toned.

The maximum capacity for each figure session is fifteen participants due to studio size, not including the model or session director. A participating artist would be expected to come prepared to draw - meaning they have mark-making media such as graphite, charcoal, or paints capable of making a large tonal range, a large drawing board, easel, pencil sharpener, eraser, etc. While some supplies will be provided by the session director, it is expected that a certain portion if not majority of participants will provide their own supplies. A dignified and respectful atmosphere is expected to be maintained at all times during the drawing sessions.

Models will be expected to hold a wide variety of dynamic and static poses anywhere from 30 seconds to 30 minutes. Working from a model allows artists to practice both visual discipline and kinesthetic mark-making. Use of undraped models is not meant to be in any way sexual or pornographic. Rather, the intent is to provide a space for artists to practice rendering the natural human form.
