Celebrating Earth Day 2022: blockchain technology and the implications for digital identity and sustainability

To mark Earth Day on April 22nd, our monthly Indicio Identity Community Meetup will look at the environmental impact of blockchain. Are identity blockchains energy hogs? Can blockchain technology actually drive environmental sustainability?

Joining us to answer these questions will be Lynn Bendixsen, Director of Networks at Indicio to talk about how Hyperledger Indy-based networks work and Kamlesh Nagware, chief technology officer for blockchain at Snapper Future Tech, co-leader of the Hyperledger India Chapter, and member of the Hyperledger Technical Steering Committee. Kamlesh will talk about his recent publication,Using Blockchain to Achieve the Sustainable development Global Goals(SDGs), and the many ways that blockchain can support the environment, including:

• E-Governance – citizen services, transparent government
• Digital Identity – self-sovereign identity and verifiable credentials
• Agriculture – traceability throughout the agricultural value chain
• Renewable energy – carbon emission tracking, energy trading
