DIDComm V 2: Implications on the future of the internet

Details

The DIDComm v2 specification has been approved by the Decentralized Identity Foundation (DIF), representing a giant leap forward on the path to widespread adoption and further development, especially with regard to peer-to-peer communication. DIDComm provides the next step in decentralized identity: direct, secure communication between the owners of DIDs. In this discussion, we’ll focus on how DIDComm removes the architectural barriers of APIs and how DIDComm-based protocols return individuals and small companies to first-class citizen status on the Internet, a state largely lost via the expansion of large social media platforms and the rise of APIs as a primary integration method.

Speakers:
Sam Curren, Senior Architect & Deputy CTO, Indicio; Co-Chair, DIDComm Working Group, DIF
Sam Curren is Indicio’s Senior Systems Architect and works on both open source and customer projects. He has been involved in the Identity Community for over 12 years, working and researching on personal data, distributed systems, supply chain digital birth certificates, and Decentralized
Identifiers (DIDs). He is a co-chair of both the Hyperledger Aries project and the DIF DIDComm Working Group, and is also a member of the Decentralized Identity Foundation Steering Committee. Sam has a Masters Degree in Computer Science from Brigham Young University.

Daniel Hardman, CTO, Provenant
Daniel Hardman contributed to the DID and the Verifiable Credential standards at W3C. He was the principal author of the peer DID method. He helped launch the Sovrin Foundation and served on its Technical Governance Board for several years. He also led the dev team that contributed Indy to Hyperledger, and wrote the spec for Indy SDK. He authored a number of Hyperledger Aries RFCs, including several related to DIDComm. He also spent some time working on CBDC and other DeFi topics. He is currently the chair of the DIDComm User Group sponsored by DIF.
