INDIGOBO PUBLIC GOOD INSTITUTE
This idea is experimental. The aim is to establish in person discussions to improve social awareness of environmental issues. After each meeting, we aim to publish the ideas that were selected by the group on the www.eiz.global website and potentially elsewhere.
Before people meet and vote on initiatives, I would like to use a metaphor.
You can describe good environmental initiatives as plants. In the course of engagement with Indigobo, people can learn more about what initiatives they may not have known about. They can find out about plants they may not have been aware of before and support them.
The other issue is soil. What actions can people take to create more potential for useful environmental initiatives to get started? We should think about the realities of how initiatives get started and what actions we can take to produce more good soil. A concrete example of good soil would be freehold building specifically dedicated to people giving presentations about environmental initiatives where people regularly meet.
The point I would like to make is that people should consider not just dedicated efforts towards finding and supporting the right plants, but also should consider how to ensure there is enough soil. If people believe there should be more plant growth, maybe the real issue is how our actions and behaviours could marginally change, particularly in our social and online interactions, to ensure there is enough soil for environmental initiatives to get off the ground.
However, it is important to be very careful here. Some people view the environment as something they are willing to dedicate a finite element of resources and attention to. I would advise such people to dedicate this time and efforts towards other effective high impact initiatives, not my project. I do not want to waste your time with an uncertain and experimental initiative.
However, you might have spare time and want to meet others to discuss ways to find useful initiatives you might not be aware of or discuss ways to help new initiatives get off the ground, If so, my initiative might be for you. This initiative is experimental – it might be a positive experience that leads to new initiatives or it may simply help direct you towards initiatives that already exist that you were not aware of before.
My first step is to write a statement and reach out to others. If like myself, you would like to direct your efforts in a specific way on an initiative that you care about while also meeting other people, this initiative might be for you.
