Mugwort, the herb of cunning men and wise women
Details
Remember, Mugwort,
what you brought to pass,
what you readied,
at Regenmeld.
You’re called Una, that most ancient plant.
You defeat three, you defeat thirty,
you defeat venom, you defeat air-illness;
you defeat the horror who stalks the land.
From the Nigon Wyrta Galdor - The Nine Herbs Charm
No other plant in the international materia medica has a reputation as universally celebrated as Artemisia vulgaris. It has been called first among herbs more than once and by people who have lived thousands of miles and thousands of years apart. In the West, it's traditionally harvested on the Eve of St. John the Baptist (June 23). While we'll miss that date by a few days, we will more than make up for it with a deep dive into all things mugwort. We will harvest it. We will explore ways to preserve and dry it. We will make tinctures, teas, and decoctions. We will talk about its medicinal actions, its phytochemistry, and its history as a culinary herb. We will also explore its long and storied cultural history including its ritual and magical use in Western Occultism and Witchcraft. Part lecture, part walk, part kitchen magic. If you ever wanted to get on intimate terms with a truly magnificent plant, this event is for you!
Things to bring - a tea cup, pruning shears if you have them, and something to sit on.
