Predictive Analytics has enjoyed profitable prosperity in a world hungry for insight over information.(I)IoT has just hit its stride, as cloud and embedded technologies have hit the sweet spot in capability and cost. The combination of the two is generating a great deal of industry excitement as a key tool in the digital transformation of enterprises.
But .. is the combination (IoT+Predictive) 'old wine in a new bottle'? Or does prediction in the physical world drive unique features in cloud service architectures and data science approaches? This talk will expand on that question, and provide prospective answers as fodder for discussion & debate.

Speaker's bio:

Venu is a technology entrepreneur with track record of successful products at the intersection of (I)IoT, Big Data and Media. His early work on the Industrial Internet of Things led to key contributions to the Zigbee IoT standard. He led teams that productized a Chromecast-like enterprise product at Motorola, a video analytics and big data platform recently acquired WatchWith, and a social analytics platform leveraging Twitter that was featured in Wired Magazine and BBC, and efforts to build set-top box accessories for legacy IoT monitoring in the home. Venu holds a Ph.D. (Databases & Artificial Intelligence) in Computer Science from The Ohio State University, is an independent consultant in IoT and Big Data technologies, and an adjunct faculty at Rice University's ECE department.

Predix is coming to Microsoft Azure. With this strategic collaboration between Microsoft and GE announced on July 11th, learn more about the Azure cloud and what it means for potential combined Predix/Azure solutions. GE’s Predix platform is already helping industrial customers rapidly build, securely deploy and effectively operate industrial applications. Bringing Predix to Azure means those same customers will now have access to additional capabilities such as natural language technology, artificial intelligence, advanced data visualization and enterprise application integration.Azure will support the growth of the entire industrial IoT ecosystem by offering Predix customers access to the largest cloud footprint available today, along with data sovereignty, hybrid capabilities, and advanced developer and data services. In addition, GE and Microsoft plan to integrate Predix with Azure IoT Suite and Cortana Intelligence Suite along with Microsoft business applications, such as Office 365, Dynamics 365 and Power BI, in order to connect industrial data with business processes and analytics.

Raheel is passionate about building products and services that have a game changing positive impact to human lives and/or to the objectives of a business by using data, analytics, machine learning and the Internet of Things. Raheel has held leadership roles at Motorola Solutions, as well as multiple Big Data- and IoT-related start-ups where he gained significant experience in transforming and operationalizing the use of data in various industries (telecom, manufacturing, managed services, public safety, healthcare, water, smart homes and social care). He spent the initial 10 years of his career with Unisys and Microsoft, working with and helping Fortune 500 companies with their Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence solutions. Raheel holds a Bachelor of Science - Finance and Management Information Systems from the University of Albany, SUNY and lives in the Chicago area with his family.
