Randall Thomas of EngineYard (https://engineyard.com) will be flying to Indy to give a presentation next month. The following is the working title of the talk, and a brief description:

Artificial Stupidity: Adding smarts to yer kode with a little machine learning

Machine Learning and data mining have long been a "black art" - partially because it sits squarely between various rigorous disciplines (statistics, linear algebra, analysis, geometry) and primarily because everyone who studies it either has a Ph.D or is working on one. This exploration will cover a basic (and gentle) introduction to machine learning, a brief overview of what sort of problems fit well into the machine learning bag, and a few examples of how we might integrate machine learning into a project.

We'll also have David Woodward in to chat about Smalltalk, a language that heavily influenced Ruby.

Time permitting, you should give a lightning talk following Mr. Woodward. You. Really.

The recurring Book Exchange!

Bring books you don't use but think might be of interest to other members. The rules of the exchange are simple:
Try to be fair-ish. Take about what you give (or less)
Don't bring grossly out of date technical books - nobody wants your OS9 user guide!

If you have books you are willing to loan to Indy.rb members, bring those, too. Make sure you track to whom you loan your books!
