Android Talks #35: AndroidX Novelties

Join us for our first Infinum Talks in 2021 and let's start this year the right way. We have prepared two interesting topics for you.

ViewBinding - Handle your Views better

You think you like Kotlin synthetics? Let me try and prove you wrong! :)
In this talk, I will use live examples to show the differences and benefits of using ViewBinding compared to other view handling methodologies such as Kotlin synthetics, Butterknife, and findViewById.
Their key features will be compared side-by-side to get a better understanding of their pros and cons.
Some tips and tricks that I got from my experience on various projects are also part of the package!

Stjepan was born in 1993 in Zagreb, Croatia. He graduated from the Faculty of electrical engineering and computing, and by that time already had some programming experience on several different platforms. However, he was always most passionate about making mobile apps, having several side projects at all times, so he decided to steer his career in that direction. After working as a desktop/web developer for some time, Stjepan landed his first official Android job in 2019 at Infinum.

There is something new in AndroidX Jetpack. Learn how to use AndroidX App Startup to decrease project initialization time and build faster, cleaner, and more performant applications or libraries. We’ll discuss and compare manual initialization, multiple ContentProviders, and AndroidX App Startup as a new contender.

Bojan is working on mobile platforms for over a decade. A few years ago he joined Infinum and with accumulated knowledge and experience became an Android Lead Engineer. One of the daily duties in this new role also implies trying out new technologies and integrating them into existing projects.
