INFORMS San Francisco Chapter In-Person Event
Details
Please join us for this upcoming in-person event! We will start gathering at 4pm, with talks from two presenters beginning at 4:30pm. Ariel Evnine (Research Science Manager, Meta) and Holger Teichgraeber (Data Science Manager, Archer Aviation) will present individual 25 minute talks, followed by networking. We will be meeting at UC Berkeley - Dantzig Auditorium, located at 2521 Hearst Ave, Berkeley, CA in the Etcheverry Hall.
Holger Teichgraeber (Data Science Manager, Archer Aviation)
A powerful union - exploring the intersection of machine learning and optimization. Many business applications consist of a mix of machine learning and optimization methods. In this talk, I will explore the four main ways in which the two interact. I will point out common pitfalls both from a machine learning and optimization perspective, highlighting why considering them jointly is important to solve problems in transportation, energy, supply chain, and beyond.
Ariel Evnine (Research Science Manager, Meta)
Model + Treatment Heterogeneity: an overview of methods and applications from a Central Applied Science team at Meta
As product and model improvements become more difficult, and with the risk of sub-population degradation in mind, product and ML teams must often consider how changes they make will affect different users. I will present an overview of the tools and methods the Model and Treatment Heterogeneity team in Meta developed and use to help product teams understand and make the best use of their experiment data for product launches, as well as ML teams to monitor, understand and optimize their models.
How to get there?
- BART to Downtown Berkeley station: It is a 20 minute uphill walk from Downtown Berkeley Bart station to Etcheverry Hall across the UC Berkeley campus.
- Parking: The nearest available visitor parking is available at Lower Hearst Garage, Level 2, though this lot may be full. There is limited street parking available, but there is a 2-hour limit till 7pm. The most reliable option is to park off-campus in downtown Berkeley and walk 15-20 minutes through campus to get to Etcheverry.
Dantzig Auditorium
The Dantzig Auditorium (room 1174) is on the 1st floor of Etcheverry Hall. Depending on the entrance, you’ll enter on the 2nd or 3rd floor of the building. Elevators and stairways to get to the first floor are located at the north & south side of the building. The auditorium is located along a side corridor of the long hallway. We’ll have signage to guide the way.
