Session description:
Cyberattacks and nondigital events (such as power outages, fires, floods, or bad weather) don’t just break code or take servers down; they ripple into the real world. In hospitals, where Andrew works, cyber incidents have forced ambulances to be diverted, delayed surgeries, and pushed staff back into paper charts and manual work, which can slow care and increase risk. At the same time, physical events can knock out data centers, kill power to critical systems, and leave teams scrambling with paper, phones, and spreadsheets for days.

For IT folks, this session is about stepping back from “systems up vs down” and seeing downtime as a whole organization problem. It shows why cyber resilience, emergency planning, facilities, and IT all need to sit at the same table so that uptime, backups, and recovery actually support critical operations, safety, and day to day work; instead of just looking good on a dashboard.

Your speaker:
Andrew Moull is the Manager of Emergency and Disaster Management at Hamilton Health Sciences, where he leads emergency preparedness and response across one of Ontario’s largest healthcare systems. He’s worked in healthcare emergency management since 2014 and is passionate about making complex systems more resilient.

Andrew also teaches and mentors future professionals. He’s been CoCourse Director for Healthcare and Emergency Management in York University’s graduate program since 2019 and helped design Conestoga College’s new Honours Bachelor of Emergency Management program, where he’ll also be teaching. Andrew is the first Canadian to earn the Certified Healthcare Emergency Manager (Mastery Level) designation and is an active leader within AHEPP’s Canadian chapter.

Your co-hosts:
Todd Dow (LinkedIn) is a Technical Security Solutions Architect at Cisco. He is also a writer, speaker and founder of InfoSec Hamilton. Todd has over 20 years of experience in the cybersecurity field performing penetration tests, providing security architecture and compliance consulting and creating, developing and leading high performing security teams – this included working as the CISO at two organizations: First Ontario Credit Union and ArcelorMittal Dofasco. Todd maintains CISSP, CISA and PMP credentials and he has also earned an Hon BA in Philosophy and Religious Studies from the University of Toronto.

Don Mallory (LinkedIn) has over 30 years of experience in enterprise IT, primarily in critical infrastructure, specializing in operations, data storage, disaster recovery, and security for critical infrastructure. Professionally, Don is a Senior Security Analyst in the healthcare sector. He is a co-author of “Applied Data Security Strategy - A Leader’s Guide”, and has been involved in various volunteer activities including C3X, Hak4Kidz Toronto, the Hamilton Infosec Meetup, and the Latow Photographer's Guild at the Art Gallery of Burlington, where he teaches traditional wet darkroom photography.
