Exploration of: Digital and Real

Is the digital world we're in more or less a reflection of what we typically differentiate as real? Is what's real and what's digital interlinked beyond just the basis of culture, social ties, history (major aspects of the observable world)? Was a mixing/merging of the digital and the real inevitable as a process of our lives? Or is it only a disruption of what's "natural" so wasn't meant to happen? Alternately, was it meant to be that the digital would be a disruption?
