Monthly Writing Workshop

Hello fellow writers,

The Shenzhen Writing Workshop meets twice a month to share and discuss creative writing！ We're a community of creative individuals who are passionate about all things writing (and reading!). Come join us!

Whether you write fiction, nonfiction, poetry, or even film and comic scripts, we invite you to join us and receive feedback on a piece that you're currently trying to improve! Or, if you have writer's block, you can always use our monthly prompt! Please try to keep submissions to around 2000 words.

Feel free to use this list of prompts to get the creative juices flowing before our next workshop. You can also mix and match different prompts if you really want to spice things up:

1. Alternate history. Reimagine a major historical event.
2. Think of a stereotypical character, now create something unexpected or unusual about them that doesn't fit the stereotype.
3. Create a cross-genre piece, for example, an urban fantasy or a historical horror story.
4. Take a quote from your favorite author and use it as a starting point for your story.
5. Think of a pivotal moment in life, such as marriage, birth, death, or a break up, now imagine how the character from prompt 2 (or any character of your choosing) would behave in the scenario.
