Sycamore Canyon Park MTB Ride

Details

Details!
We will be free riding the southern section of Sycamore Canyon Park in Riverside.
This place is massive, with a dense network of intersecting trails. If there is a trail feature that we run across that people aren't confident about, we can easily go around and find a new trail section.
The whole park is currently on the tail end of a wildflower super bloom. The brush is green, tall, and filled with flowers.
Terrain is hard pan to rocky, with a few sandy spots. There is a creek in the middle that we will have to cross a few times. It's about ankle deep.
We will be starting on the southwestern side, and taking Gas Line Trail toward to the Arroyo Trail. We will do the Arroyo Loop as well as look for neat side trails.
In total, we will probably ride for 2-2.5 hrs. Highest elevation climb is about 300 ft, but there are plenty of short, very steep spots and a few hike-a-bikes. There are some long, flowy, high speed sections as well.
Meeting Time, Place, and How to Find Us

  • 8am at the trailhead. The ride itself will start at 8:30am.
  • The trailhead is located at the intersection of Canyon Crest Drive and Via Vista Drive. Meet here with your bike, ready to go.
  • Parking is street parking. Note that the road alongside the trailhead is no parking. But there is plenty of parking in the neighborhoods around the trailhead.
  • I will have a large American flag hanging from my camelback. I'll stick out.

What to bring:

  • Your bike
  • A helmet (you cannot ride with us without a helmet)
  • Water
  • Snacks
  • Basic tools like a small pump, tire levers, and a tube for your bike
  • Sunscreen

Notes on your bike:
Whatever type of bike you are riding, please make sure it is in good working order beforehand. That means tires full, brakes working, handlebars tight, chain good, and crankset ready to go. If you think you will need help or are not sure, contact the organizer before the ride.
Notes on carpooling:
Some people have a bike and no car. It happens! If you need a carpool, feel free to post it on this event's chat.
Event fees:
This event is completely FREE.
Essential Safety:

  • This is a NO DROP RIDE. We stick together. The person in front of the train has to be willing to stop for the rest of the group.
  • Only ride within your ability. If you aren't sure about something, stop and think about it. We do not have to hit every trail out here in the time allotted.
  • Watch out for hikers!
  • If you see somebody struggling, call it out and help them out.
