Study of Chapter 14:
## The Forces of Evolution - The Three Gunas:
## Verses 26- 27
## Discussion Themes:
- JOY OF DEVOTION: The modern rational mindset often views displays of religious devotion as the realm of simple, emotional folk, of old-fashioned, unquestioning faith. But with an open heart and open-minded imagination, with a rational and scientific approach of questioning and experimentation, we may unfold within ourselves rarely refined feelings of exuberant joy and peace..
- HYPNOTIC PREACHING?: For the cynics, Religion and spirituality are forms of unquestioning belief, a crutch, a self-hypnotising form of escapism. During his lecture tours in America, Swami Vivekananda was asked: 'Are you not, Swami, preaching some sort of hypnotism? Straight came the answer: No, I am dehypnotising you. You are already hypnotised. I am black, I am white, I am poor, I am rich, etc. You are not any of these! You are that eternal reality, the Atman. That is your true nature. My work is to dehypnotise you. That is true Religion. Everyone of us is under a lot of hypnotic influences.’ Actually, the spiritual path at its truest and best is a scientific search for truth in the inner world..'
- RELIGION - TWO DIMENSIONS: There are two dimensions of Religion: the belief-bound scriptural, ethnical, and cultural dimension – the domain of the masses, and the subtler, eternal, unchanging, deeply spiritual dimension – the domain of ardent seekers and mystics.
We're a multicultural group of varying ages, including our Vedanta Society members and friends. We always welcome new faces and hear new perspectives.
