When talking about functions, mathematicians and programmers mean different things – or do they not? This talk is a deep dive into the role of functions in different contexts:

• How do functions fit our fundamental model of solving problems?
• What is the role of functions in category theory?
• What are the similarities and differences between functions and functors?

As the concept of a function exists both in mathematics and programming, they make an excellent focus point for bridging the gap between theory and practice in these two fields.
