What we're about

Welcome to Inside Wine Santa Barbara!! Our group features tastings with winemakers and sommeliers who give us the "inside scoop" on viniculture, viticulture, wine-food pairing and wine appreciation.

IWSB was co-founded in September of 2012 by Tama Takahashi and Lila Brown. We were "baking buddies" at the School of Culinary Arts at SBCC and channeled our mutual interest in wine & food into creating educational and affordable wine & food events.

In January 2015, when Lila moved to Sonoma, Hana-Lee Sedgwick served as Co-organizer for two years.

I continue hand selecting the best and most interesting winemakers and wineries to share with our membership. I have edited three cookbooks, including "Around the Table" for The Lark restaurant and completed my level 2 WSET wine education certification. I don't make money off the events, I organize them to learn more about wine and connect with other wine aficionados. Your email and information is safe and not even visible to me. Membership is free (must be 21+). Welcome, let's celebrate the diversity and quality of our wine and food in this unique and remarkable region of the world!

Here's your chance to taste Brys Estate wines! The Brys family and their South African-born winemaker Coenraad Stassen will be in Santa Barbara for the World of Pinot Noir. I've snagged them to come and pour their cool-climate wines for Inside Wine Santa Barbara at our exclusive event. Cutler's Artisan Spirits Tasting - NEW DATE

Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History

Hi, For 6 years, we've been tasting wonderful wines and learning more about wine varietals and wine making from winemakers, sommeliers and chefs. For the first time, Inside Wine Santa Barbara is going to taste artisan spirits! The idea came after a very fun whiskey-tasting experience at a bar in Oregon. The variety of flavors was a surprise to me and I realized there is an fascinating world of spirits that I haven't explored. I happened to meet Ian Cutler at a event planners party, enjoyed learning more about the distillation process, and thought this would be a fun and different tasting experience for Inside Wine members. Join us as Ian Cutler, Owner and Head Distiller of Cutler's Spirits pours samples and discusses how his artisanal liquors are created. His handcrafted philosophy makes a big difference in quality! For example, Cutler's uses non-GMO corn for their vodka and locally grown California citrus, elderflower, jasmine, cardamom to complement the traditional flavors of juniper berry, coriander, and angelica in their gin. We'll also learn a bit about his family's distillery beginning in the Gold Rush days through Prohibition and on to the current day. Our Meetup will be in the SB Natural History Museum's newest exhibit space - the Santa Barbara Gallery. Three-levels of unique dioramas highlight the rich biodiversity of Santa Barbara. It's going to be a fun and informative Meetup, hope to see you there! cheers, Tama
