Philosophy Nights ! (Theme: Nationalism Night)

Details

Dear Friends of the Philosophy Meetup!
It's with great joy that we announce another Philosophy Night! We continue to be humbled by the people who tell us that their Saturdays just aren't the same without their weekly dose of philosophy and community.
To that end, we are currently partnering with Maison de l'Afrique in Rosemont (a few mins away from Beaubien station).
Meetup fee 12.00$
Fees maintain our operations and black coffee, tea and some snacks are included.

Theme: Nationalism
Topics:

  1. A Way Forward: How can both Canada and Quebec best position themselves in an unstable world of international geo-politics? Is long term independence even possible?

  2. A Way Back: An interrogation of what we've left behind. At what cost have our Canadian and Québécois identities come in recent years? What traditions are helpful, which have become harmful, and is there anything we should bring back?

  3. Right Away: A reflection on the Carney Liberals' first 100 days. Is their performance satisfactory, surprising, or sour? Should they lean towards governing from the right as enlightened centrists or take the cue from rising stars such as Zohran Mamdani and rebuild the Canadian Left?

For those not familiar with the format, here is how the night will work:
Topics don't need to be strictly philosophical, they can be social, political or historical, anything that the group decides is worth discussing.
- Maison de l'Afrique then closes but we often continue into the night at a local pub/eatery.
So come by to see old friends, make new ones and have stimulating discussions with amazing open-minded people from all walks of life!
