Details

Dear Friends of the Philosophy Meetup!
We continue to be humbled by the people who tell us that their Saturdays just aren't the same without their weekly dose of philosophy and community.
To that end, it's with great joy that we announce the next edition of FANCY ✨ Philosophy Nights! So dust off those dresses, Sortie those suits and dress up for a lovely evening of discussion and dance!

Meetup fee 25.00$
In addition to a special extended evening with your favorite fancy folks, fees will cover your first drink (alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages will be available) along with our regular philosophy night fare of maintaining operational costs, black coffee, tea and some snacks.

Additionally, we will have dance instructors to help get everyone moving!

Theme: Relationships Night
As popular as ever, let’s discuss relationships in all their glory. Whether through social contracts, swiping right, or sheer luck, most of us have experienced either delight or disaster in relationships! Let’s talk about it.

Topics:

  1. Some say love is all biology, but when we say 'they're pair-bonding', 'they're peacocking', or 'they're on the prowl tonight', what exactly do we mean by that? Perhaps more importantly, what does that do to our society? A discussion examining how biology and society inform each other.

  2. What even is a 21st century marriage? We know what they used to be for and why they were done. Are they really so different now, or is it a monument to tradition and stability, a part of coming of age, a show of commitment, a day to celebrate oneself, or something else entirely?

  3. Healthy relationships (romantic or otherwise) seem a universal desire. We should then seek to build and maintain them to the best of our ability... but in a world of love languages, personality types, and where our needs are modeled into every known shape under the sun, how are we to know how to go about doing it and how will we know how we've done?

We'll vote on one of the above topics and discuss it during the moderated portion of the evening before moving on to breakout discussion and dance!
- Topics at Philosophy nights don't need to be strictly philosophical, they can be social, political or historical -- really anything that the group decides is worth discussing.
- We are currently partnering with Maison de l'Afrique in Rosemont (a few mins away from Rosemont/Beaubien stations).
So come by to see old friends, make new ones and have stimulating discussions with amazing open-minded people from all walks of life!
