Philosophy Nights ! (Theme: Spirituality Night)

Dear Friends of the Philosophy Meetup!
It's with great joy that we announce another Philosophy Night! We continue to be humbled by the people who tell us that their Saturdays just aren't the same without their weekly dose of philosophy and community.
To that end, we are currently partnering with Maison de l'Afrique in Rosemont (a few mins away from Beaubien station).
Meetup fee 12.00$
Fees maintain our operations and black coffee, tea and some snacks are included.

Theme: Spirituality
Topics:

1. Where Metaphysics Meets Ethics

If people believe in something “beyond” this world, how might that change how they live in this one ?

What do ideas like the soul, karma, or an afterlife encourage ?

What might a myth of ascent and/or descent — some vision of existence beyond this life — elicit or provoke in people ?

2. Agnosticism: Get Off the Fence Already

Is it possible to stay undecided forever, or do our daily choices already reveal where we stand?

Does keeping an open mind show humility, or is it sometimes just avoiding commitment?

Do we need a worldview to live fully, or can living with uncertainty itself be a kind of worldview?

3. My God and Your God Agree on One Thing at Least: Praxis through Practice

Even when beliefs differ, do our practices — like compassion, mindfulness, or justice — end up looking similar?

Does it matter more what someone believes, or what they actually do with those beliefs?

What would a “soulful practice” look like for someone who doesn’t believe in a soul?

For those not familiar with the format, here is how the night will work:
Topics don't need to be strictly philosophical, they can be social, political or historical, anything that the group decides is worth discussing.
- Maison de l'Afrique then closes but we often continue into the night at a local pub/eatery.
So come by to see old friends, make new ones and have stimulating discussions with amazing open-minded people from all walks of life!
