Philosophy Nights ! (Theme: Tribalism)
Details
Dear Friends of the Philosophy Meetup!
It's with great joy that we announce another Philosophy Night! We continue to be humbled by the people who tell us that their Saturdays just aren't the same without their weekly dose of philosophy and community.
To that end, we are currently partnering with Maison de l'Afrique in Rosemont (a few mins away from Beaubien station).
Meetup fee 12.00$
Fees maintain our operations and black coffee, tea and some snacks are included.
Theme: Tribalism
Topics:
-
Globalism vs Nationalism - In an age of global connection, our oldest loyalties still divide us. Are nations natural tribes or modern myths? Can cosmopolitan ideals overcome borders, or do they erase what makes us human? Join us as we explore belonging, identity, and the pull between local and universal.
-
Tradition vs Transformation - Every tribe guards its stories... but when do they guide us, and when do they hold us back? From cultural heritage to social progress, we’ll ask how communities decide what to preserve, what to evolve, and whether progress can ever be truly universal, or if it always remains tribal.
-
Security vs Courage - When does standing with your tribe protect you, and when does it cost your integrity? We’ll explore loyalty, fear, and moral courage from whistleblowers to family disputes and ask what it really means to defy the tribe without losing your sense of belonging.
For those not familiar with the format, here is how the night will work:
Topics don't need to be strictly philosophical, they can be social, political or historical, anything that the group decides is worth discussing.
- Maison de l'Afrique then closes but we often continue into the night at a local pub/eatery.
So come by to see old friends, make new ones and have stimulating discussions with amazing open-minded people from all walks of life!
