Dear Friends of the Philosophy Meetup!
It's with great joy that we announce another Philosophy Night! Saturdays aren't the same without their weekly dose of philosophy and community.
To that end, we are currently partnering with Maison de l'Afrique in Rosemont (a few mins away from Beaubien station).
**Meetup fee 12.00$**
Fees cover our operations, and black coffee, tea, and some snacks are included.

Theme: The philosophy of desire

Topic: It's been said that human desire/wants often swings like a pendulum between the insatisfaction of striving for something and the boredom that comes from obtaining said desire(s). Let us thus explore the nature of our endless thirst for wants and what we can learn from it!

1) Is desire ultimately needed for humanity? Or should we seek to bypass them?

2) Is pleasure (in the hedonistic sense) a prerequisite for desire? Can one have a desire that's not based on pleasure?

3) Are our individual set of desires conscious extrapolations of "universal base desires" or are they predetermined by external factors (eg. upbringing, cultural, socio economic class etc).

For those not familiar with the format, here is how the night will work:
Topics don't need to be strictly philosophical, they can be social, political or historical, anything that the group decides is worth discussing.
Come by to see old friends, make new ones, and have stimulating discussions with amazing open-minded people from all walks of life!
