What we’re about
We are the Insight Meditation Community of Richmond, a twice weekly gathering of diverse individuals who practice meditation and study the teachings of the Buddha according to the Theravada (pronounced terra VAH duh) school of Buddhism, the traditional Buddhism of Southern and Southeast Asia. IMCR, under the name The Vipassana Group, first met at Ekoji in November 1994, and began weekly Friday meetings on March 3, 1995.
Newcomers are welcome and encouraged to attend, regardless of their meditation experience, religious background or affiliation, or those with no religious affiliation. Please visit our orientation page to get oriented.
We meet at the Ekoji Buddhist Sangha of Richmond; 3411 Grove Avenue.

Please join us for an hour and a half of metta and compassion for our beloved world community. With metta practice, we cultivate an attitude of befriending, attending, and good will. We do not have to love or like what we see. With compassion, we cultivate the capacity to touch into suffering, allowing our hearts to break open. And if we can do something to relieve the suffering, we do so with wisdom born of mindfulness. We will have time together for guided meditations as well as time for mindful reflections together.
Beginners and experienced meditators are welcome to join. For those new to IMCR we offer an online orientation on this website. Additionally, beginning meditators are encouraged to familiarize themselves with Vipassana (Insight) meditation through the series of videos on this page.
Generosity for the Teacher and the IMCR Group
There are two ways to practice generosity for this event: Generosity for the teacher and generosity for the IMCR group.Your donation to the teacher provides support to allow Carolyn to continue offering these teachings, and your donation to the IMCR group allows the continuation of the IMCR group. Please give as feels appropriate and generous for you. Please delight in your generosity and know that the dharma continues to be offered to you and others through our collective acts of sharing. All are welcome, no donation is required.
You can donate at the event and also online to Carolyn and/or the IMCR group.
