We practice in the Western Buddhist Vipassana tradition as taught by Jack Kornfield, Joseph Goldstein and Sharon Salzberg. These teachers brought to the West the teachings of Theravada Masters from the Thai Forest and Burmese traditions.

Our meditation group meets from 7-8:30pm on Monday evenings in-person, in South Scottsdale. We sometimes offer class series and retreats by Genevieve or visiting senior teachers in the Western Vipassana tradition.

On Monday nights we offer a 40 minute sit, followed by a short dharma talk and facilitated dharma discussion led by founding teacher Genevieve Tregor. Please note that most attendees don't 'rsvp' here on Meetup (although it's great if you do!) but you can generally expect to practice meditation with between 15-25 other meditators on any Monday night. It is not necessary to have any experience with meditation to attend; some basic instruction is offered at the beginning of our 'sit'.

Genevieve (https://www.solutionmindfulness.com/genevieve) has been practicing Vipassana meditation since 2008 and has spent over a year and a half in intensive retreat, including multiple long practice periods of 6 to 9 weeks; she teaches classes and retreats in the Buddhist tradition as well as in secular mindfulness contexts, and also serves on the faculty for Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach's International Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program.

All are welcome. This group is supported entirely by 'Dana', or the practice of generosity; everyone is welcome to attend and offer whatever feels generous in their heart according to their own circumstances. The opportunity to sit together and hear the Buddha Dharma cannot be given a 'price-tag'. The Dana model is radical in the context of a 'fee for service' society; but it has existed for over 2500 years - from the time of the Buddha - which has allowed the teachings to be shared with everyone who wishes to hear them, regardless of income over the centuries; by those with greater resources 'subsidizing' those with less. Dana does not mean 'free' - as nothing can survive or thrive in a vacuum! Financial offerings support the ability to pay rental and other costs of maintaining the group operationally; but also to support the well-being and ability of the teacher to devout herself to offer the teachings in integrity with an ongoing practice. So, please do consider the importance of supporting financially, as well as through participation and volunteering, according to the value it holds for you and your own resources.

Insight Scottsdale is a 'politics free' zone and does not promote any political or activist ideologies or 'sides', explicitly or implicitly.
