A Proven Strategy and Methodology for Improving Employee Engagement

Details

I am pleased to announce that we finally have a date and time for our postponed Meetup workshop being offered by Bob McQueen and Lynnea Hagan. Our Meetup goal is to provide an environment of inspiration, learning and support for members interested in positively influencing work environments so that they both stimulate achievement and sustain a healthy work-life balance.

The workshop being offered by Bob and Lynnea is directly supportive of our Meetup goal. They have been working independently and collaboratively for many years to develop tools and methods for building a work environment of inspiration and learning. If you want to know more about Bob and Lynnea, you may visit Bob’s website at http://www.olc.com and Lynnea’s at http://www.theabundancecompany.com .

On October 9th of last year, Bob and Lynnea presented a poster session at the Organizational Development National Conference held in Atlanta and they would like to share that with our Group. This workshop enables participants to gain an understanding of the information they presented in that poster session.

An overview of the poster session is as follows:

The Poster Session provides information on a shared vision and proven strategy for implementing change in a way which both enhances employee engagement and organizational performance. This strategy is referred to as “The Five- Phase Approach” it was developed during a six-year long Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) research program. Twenty major US utilities participated in the program. The three components of a shared vision are 1) what is to be achieved, 2) why achieving it is important and 3) how it will be achieved.

The Five-Phase Approach emphasizes the importance of developing an overall strategy for improvement that includes gaining organization-wide support for improvement, providing employees with the knowledge and skills needed to achieve the organization’s improvement goals and implementing a strategic planning methodology the aligns the organizations improvement goals with its Strategic Plan. The approach emphasizes the importance of tailoring the improvement effort to meet the needs of a specific organization.

Our workshop will provide information on the theory; tools and methods for improving organizational performance and employee engagement Bob’s consulting company The Organizational Learning Center (OLC) have developed. It will also provide an overview of successful hands on improvement projects which utilize these tools and methods that were undertaken by OLC during six years of research for the Electric Power Research Institute.

At the conference, they provided a number of handouts covering details of the tools and methods they will describe. I have added two of these handouts to our Meetup library, one is a short document prepared by Dane Rudhyar (1972). This document inspired both Bob and Lynnea in the pursuit of a theory and practice organizations could use in developing what they refer to as organic partnership organizations. The second document is an overview of findings and resources developed by OLC during six years of research for the Electric Power Research Institute.

Bob is a professor at Silicon Valley University; as a quid pro quo for providing the meeting room we have agreed to allow SVU MBA students to attend the workshop if they choose.
