What started as just getting together once a month having tea really turned into a deeper connection, sisterhood, vulnerability, being true to what each of us was experiencing within our personal lives. Holding space in the deeper conversations that we brought in. Holding a sister as she cried her tears of joy and sorrow. Asking each sister how we could support her as she traversed her life.
These conversations and coming together each month opened up things within each of us:
- Deepened our connection within ourselves and each other
- See different perspectives that weren't available to us before
- Opened our hearts to receive love (for ourselves as well as others)
- That we were not Broken
- We were not Alone (that each of us knew that we could contact any one of us and we would be there).
- Increased our strength and courage to do the “tough” things
- Created firmer boundaries for ourselves
- Our voices were heard
- We could go back out into the world standing on a foundation of sovereignty, and autonomy.
Each month we discover a different "label" that we wear, how we interpret that label, how a "label" can mold us in how to act and be via society or familial ways. To come out creating a choice of how we want to live in that label. It lifted a big veil of stigma around it, we felt lighter, we were able to move freely, opening ourselves up, releasing the guilt and shame of what we were thinking of being in that label. It was an amazing transformation for all who attended. The drumming and vocals availed us to really step into our hearts and come from love.
