From the ratification of the 2nd Amendment on 1791 to 2025, the evolution of gun debate in the United States still rages on.

Opposing views:

  • The pro-gun side argue that the 2nd Amendment was written to have an armed militia to stand up against the government when it becomes tyrannical. They point out that the majority of gun crimes are from stolen guns from criminals. This side emphasis on the "Shall Not Be Infringed" part of the amendment
  • The anti-gun side argue that the 2nd Amendment is an outdated amendment and that gun technologies have greatly improved, making modern firepower too powerful for everyday citizens. They also point out why would anyone need a gun like that? This side emphasis on the "well-regulated militia" part of the amendment

Questions to Ponder

  • Who were the militia?

  • What was the 2nd Amendment written for?

  • Is the 2nd Amendment outdated?

  • Do you believe that gun crimes in the USA are among some of the highest in the world?

  • What does USA have some many mass shootings?

  • What is an assault rifle?

  • Are Red Flag laws a good idea?

  • How do you view Stand Your Ground vs Duty To Retreat laws

  • How gun crimes differs from Conservative verses Liberal cities?

  • Do you support total or partial gun ban? If so, where do we draw the line?

  • Thoughts on Common Sense gun laws?

  • How has the Supreme Courts decision on the 2nd A evolved overtime?

Guidelines:

  • Hand raises are required.
  • There will be a 3 minute timer for every person. However, in this group, I do allow a brief back and fourth interjection from others if it's something that's related to the person who was just speaking. This is a way to prevent the group from feeling too "robotic" in style and get your pressing question asked to the speaker and get the answer right away without waiting all the way back to your turn again.
  • Be authentic & civil!
  • Please refrain from using Ad Hominem (personal) attacks. Instead, please attack the points from others. Severe Ad Hominem such as racist behavior will result in being removed from the meeting.
  • Zoom link will be posted 15 minutes before the meeting. (Refresh page 15 min before start time)
