Abortion is easily one of the most controversial political issues in the United States and it seems like a never ending debate.

  • Pro-Life side: They believe that life begins at conception and that with exceptions of medical emergencies, there should be no ethical and moral reasons for abortion because they believe that life sacred. This camp of people argue that there's no ethical abortion method because killing in anyway is still killing. They also argue for adoption over abortion.
  • Pro-Choice side: They believe that abortion is the woman's choice because they think it's her body and therefore her choice. They also think that abortion is healthcare and a human right. The common argument within this camp is that a fetus is not a person and does not have the full rights of a full person.

Questions to ponder:

  • When does life begin?
  • When does a fetus become a person?
  • At what point can the fetus feel pain?
  • What should be the rights of the fetus?
  • What are the rights of the woman?
  • Should men have a say on abortion?
  • Who should have the final say on abortion?
  • Should abortion stop at the point of viability of the fetus?
  • When is the point of viability for a fetus?
  • Are abortion procedures ethical?
  • (For the women of the group) Is the fetus your body therefore your choice?
  • Should rape victims be allowed to have abortion?
  • Is abortion a human right?
  • Is abortion healthcare?
  • What are the core values of the pro-life people?
  • What are the core values of the pro-choice people?
  • Why or why not you are a pro-lifer?
  • Why or why not you are a pro-choicer?
  • Do you have to be a Christian to be pro-life?
  • When are abortions acceptable? (Medical emergency? Socioeconomic?)
  • Do you support late term abortions (Why or why not)?
  • Do you believe that contraception pills are considered abortion?
  • How can societies help pregnant women that are in financial hardships?
  • What do you think of adoption for children about to be born into poverty?
  • Should tax payers have to pay for children put into adoption?
  • Is abortion safer or going through birth safer?
  • Should abortion be determined by federal or state governments?
  • How states differ with abortion laws?
  • What are the possible complications a woman can experience during a miscarriage?
  • How did the reversal of Roe vs Wade case change the abortion landscape?
  • To what extent is abortion similar or different than euthanasia of a fully grown human?
  • What are the determined abortion cut off (weeks) in other countries?
  • How abortion is viewed in your countries?
  • If you can change anything within the abortion political landscape, what would it be and why?

Guidelines:

  • If your name on Zoom does not match your Zoom name, you will be removed or not admitted.
  • Hand raises are required. There are no limits on how many times you can raise your hand.
  • There will be a 2-3 minute timer for every person depending the size of attendees. However, in this group, I do allow a brief back and fourth interjection from others if it's something that's related to the person who was just speaking. This is a way to prevent the group from feeling too "robotic" in style and get your pressing question asked to the speaker and get the answer right away without waiting all the way back to your turn again.
  • Be authentic & civil!
  • Please refrain from using Ad Hominem (personal) attacks. This includes in voice, in meeting chat, and in the comments section below. Instead, please attack the points from others. Severe Ad Hominem such as racist behavior will result in being removed from the meeting.
  • Zoom link is posted well before the day of the meeting but you will not be able to join until 10 minutes before the meeting start time.
