Feminist Book Club - Norwich - April
Details
For April's book we’ll be reading:
Ancient Bodies, Ancient Lives: Sex, Gender, and Archaeology by Rosemary Joyce
A eye opening, feminist shake-up of everything we think we know about gender in the past.
Joyce spotlights Mayan Queens, Old European matriarchs, Medieval nuns, and Central Asian ‘Amazons’ to show that the pink and blue binaries dividing people strictly into “men” and “women” weren’t the default. Her work reminds us that identity has always been far more fluid, political, and culturally specific than patriarchal narratives admit.
For anyone interested in archaeology, gender studies and sexuality, this is one to pick up!
Join us in April to dig into a past that’s richer, queerer, and far more complicated than the history books let on.
