What we’re about
Are you an intermediate-level musician wanting to play music with like-minded people?
Looking for a jam session in London?
We’re a collective of intermediate level musicians based in London.
We found that there were lots of jams in the city that cater to beginner and highly advanced musicians, but not much specifically for the people in between.
The purpose of the group is to help each other develop our musical skills through frequent jams and improvisation sessions in a friendly and welcoming environment.
We believe that by regularly playing music with people of a similar level together we can all learn from each and progress to a more advanced level.
We deconstruct songs, we rearrange songs and we experiment with music.
We play all styles and genres of music and welcome all intermediate level musicians regardless of what instrument you play. If want to find musicians to play with in London, this is the group for you.
How it works
- Our sessions are capped at 10 people so everyone gets a good amount of time to play
- Sessions last for 3 hours
- Sessions usually take place on Sunday afternoons
- Attendees nominate songs to explore at the session
- We confirm the song list around ten days before the session (so people have time to practice)
- We focus on a maximum of 8 core songs in each session so we have enough time to deconstruct them, rearrange them and play them in different styles at our own pace. By doing this, everyone gets to contribute in their own unique way.
- We use any remaining time for improvisation and other musical fun!

Our Repertoire
We're building the "IMC Repertoire", a list of core songs that we pay particular attention to during our events.
We'd like members to nominate songs that they'd like to work on. They can be from any music genre and style, so don't be shy! It's an open list that will keep growing with the group.
For each session we will collectively pick 6-8 songs from this list to focus on. That's not to say that we don't play other things, but we want to have a solid list that we can pick and choose from over the next few months.

EVENT DETAILS
Location:
Pirate Studios Dalston - 42-56 Tottenham Rd, London N1 4BZ
We'll message the attendees individually with studio number and access codes.
Attendees:
The event is capped at 10 people so we can all fit in the room and so each person has a good amount of time to play.
***In order to get a balance of instruments and so that people get enough time to play please message us before signing up and paying.****
We'd like to limit the numbers to 3 guitarists, 2 drummers, 2 bassists and 2 pianists/keys per session. No limits on any other instrument.
Songs:
We will play SIX songs at the jam.
Please add your song suggestions to the repertoire spreadsheet:

Two weeks before the session we'll communicate what the final set list and improvisation scenarios are, so we all have time to prepare.
It would be great if all attendees could prepare for all 6 tracks (even if there are perhaps 1 or 2 that you would like to take the lead on, or if they are outside what you might normally play). This way we can play each of the songs in a style that reflects all of the musicians in attendance.
How to prepare for the session:
It would be great if all attendees could prepare for all 8 tracks (even if there are perhaps 1 or 2 that you would like to take the lead on, or if they are outside what you might normally play). This way we can play each of the songs in a style that reflects all of the musicians in attendance.Studio equipment and what to bring:
Drummers:
- Drum kit and cymbals are provided, but feel free to bring your own cymbals if you like.
- Sticks are not provided so kindly bring your own.
Guitar and Bass players
- Bring your instrument and a spare cable to connect it to the amps (2 guitar amps and 1 bass amp provided by the studio).
Keyboard players
- Unfortunately Pirate Studios can't guarantee keyboard availability so please bring your own keyboard and stand.
- If this is a problem for you please let us know and we will try to help.
1 Mixer and 2 Speakers are provided by the studio. There are also 3 microphones to amplify any instruments not mentioned above (percussions, saxophone, accordion, etc.).
**IMPORTANT** Pirate Studios Entry Policy
- Pirate Studios have a new security policy which requires us to provide them with a list of attendee full names prior to the jam. We will get in touch with people who haven't been before in order to get this information.
- Pirate Studios also state that all attendees bring photo ID to the session (where the name on the ID matches the full name you provide to us) in order to be allowed access to the studio. We, the organisers, don't need to see your ID, but security might.
Let us know if you have any questions. Looking forward to the session
