A new version, in English, of Molière's "Les Femmes Savantes"

Meet Henriette who, to the astonishment of the self-proclaimed “learned ladies” in her family, dreams of marrying Alexander rather than dedicating herself to the nobler pursuit of knowledge.

Her choice sets her on a collision course with her domineering mother, Philaminte, who has very different plans for her daughter; her sister Armande, who has a certain history with Alexander; and her aunt Bélise, who is convinced he is secretly in love with her.

Add a browbeaten father, a plain-speaking maid, and the ghastly poet Trissotin into the mix, and the scene is set for a lively battle between individual freedom and parental expectation, and between common sense and academic pretension.

n a new version full of humour and energy, Les Femmes Savantes, Molière’s witty satire on intellectual pretension, is reimagined in English for the contemporary stage.
