This space is for international school teachers in Tokyo who are curious about innovative approaches to teaching—and open to participating in a unique research project + professional development opportunity.
Led by a PhD candidate at Temple University Japan, this project explores Transmodal Pedagogy—a flexible, practical approach that helps teachers design lessons using multiple modes of communication like speech, writing, visuals, and movement.

Transmodal Pedagogy Workshop – Research + PD Opportunity

⏰ Time: Full-day workshop (3 sessions, 1.5–2 hrs each)
💴 Honorarium: ¥15,000 for full research participation

This full-day workshop is part of a research study on Transmodal Pedagogy—an approach that helps teachers design learning experiences using multiple modes of communication, such as visuals, movement, speech, and writing.
Throughout the day, you’ll:- Explore theory through hands-on tasks and real classroom examples
- Learn how to recognize and support diverse meaning-making in your classroom
- Collaboratively design with fellow educators
- Reflect on your own teaching practice
📣 Limited to 8 participants
Priority will be given to teachers who commit to the full research process. This includes:- Two interviews (before and after the workshop)
- A unit planning session
- Weekly teaching reflections (brief and manageable)
- A final reflective interview
Participants who complete the full research process will receive a ¥15,000 honorarium.
