The IoT Gateway with Red Hat

Details

In a Device to Cloud architecture all data is sent to the datacenter in the cloud. Even when it doesn’t need to be sent. Sending raw data to the datacenter can slow down Cloud data processing and add stress to network bandwidth. The result may lead to inefficient handling of important data that should be acted on quickly.

IoT Gateways help to relieve the stress by bridging the gap between connected devices and the datacenter. They live at the network edge and provide the capabilities to implement business rules, transform and store data. Autonomous gateway decision making for rapid device control, speed and reliability may be an essential element of a successful IoT design.

Responsibilities assigned to the gateway in a layered architecture may include:
• Communications/messaging
• Data pre-processing
• Real-time data analytics
• Real-time actions/rules
• Software defined storage
• Device management

Please join us June 21st to learn how Red Hat’s complete open source IoT ecosystem implements a layered design with distinct device, gateway, and datacenter/cloud tiers enabling resiliency and extensibility.
