About IOTA AS :

The inception of IOTA came about as a necessary solution to a scalability problem in IoT that became glaringly obvious to the team behind the technology while they were working on their hardware start-up. The team behind IOTA is also working on a hardware start-up that is developing a novel microprocessor for Internet-of-Things and distributed parallel computing (Fog and Mist computation). While IoT is all about making technological resources more ubiquitous, it is still bound by the laws of resource scarcity (supply and demand) and will only function if there is a functioning economy that allocates these resources fairly among competing and collaborating IoT providers. At the present there is no such technology that can support a trustless, interoperable and real-time machine-2-machine economy due to shortcomings of needed infrastructure and prohibitive fee structures. Since 3 of the team members of this start-up had extensive background in cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology they decided to solve this problem themselves. Recognizing the importance of this technology being entirely secure and fair for all to use it is entirely decentralized and open source.
