IoT Waterloo & Microsoft Dev workshop - Nov 28th 6-9pm
This is going to be a hands-on workshop covering the following topics:

Exercise 1: IoT Hub provisioning
Exercise 2: Configuring the Smart Meter Simulator
Exercise 3: Hot path data processing with Stream Analytics and visualizing with PowerBI

We will communicate the pre-requisites/prep 3 days before the workshop.

What will you learn?

After attending this Workshop, you’ll have the knowledge of best practices and the practical learning skills to:

• Understand the value of the Microsoft Azure IoT Hub and other Azure services for IoT solutions.

• Build your Applications for the Cloud: Learn how to architect and build your applications to take advantage of the scale that the cloud offers.

• Build an end-to-end IoT solution that processes and analyzes data both in the field and in the cloud.

We are very excited for the session tomorrow. As a part of the session:

• We will divide everyone in groups of 4-5

• Please bring in your laptops with the following installed:

(This is optional as the same can be supported by using a Virtual
Machine on the cloud – steps will be provided during the workshop)
Visual Studio Community Edition (2019 or later) :

• We will provide you a Code to activate your Azure subscriptions (1 per
group valued at $100)

• Please provision a Free Trial for Power Bi that will be used for
visualization:

Go to https://powerbi.microsoft.com/features/ Scroll down until you
see the Try Power BI for free! section of the page and select the Try Free
button.

On the page, enter your work email address (which should be the same
account as the one you use for your Azure subscription), and select
Sign up.

Follow the on-screen prompts, and your Power BI environment should
be ready within minutes

Workshop presenters: Ehsan Eskandarim

Ehsan is a Microsoft recognized MVP in Azure. He has a background as a Senior Information Technology Consultant & Solutions Architect with comprehensive experience in enterprise grade solutions and cloud applications. He is Organizer of Metro Toronto .NET User Group and achieved a couple of Microsoft certifications in Azure,.NET and SQL Server i.e. MCSD, MCPD, MCTS. He's passionate about learning new technologies and sharing his experience with fellow peers in the community.

Nik-Shahiar Nikkhah - Senior Consultant

Nik-Shahiar Nikkhah is Senior Consultant at “SQL data side” and “Azure IOT Coast 2 Coast” based in Toronto Canada, with more than 30 years of relational database experience, Nik is always keeping himself up to date with latest technologies specifically focusing on Azure. He has been in lots of senior positions like Data Engineer, Technical team lead, Data Architect, etc…, When it comes to dynamic designs and technologies he is known to be very rebellion, for example creating his own tool that created 100 SSIS packages in 43 seconds dynamically, or 150 Azure Data Factory Pipelines using a framework.
