This southern ascent of Pingyp Mountain on the Suffern-Bear Mountain trail is widely considered to be the most challenging climb on a marked trail in Harriman St. Park. Before climbing we'll have a 1-mile road walk to the SBM trail. Now it’s up! Along the steep climb, which includes some rock scrambling, we'll have views of the Hudson River, Hook Mountain, and Jackie Jones Mountain. Then one other steep but short climb up The Pines, with views of West Mountain and the Timp. After that, we complete the loop on more moderate terrain along the Red Cross and Beech trails. About 7 miles, only half uphill!
