ADU House Hacking: Create Income & Stability in Uncertain Times
Details
ADUs are easier to get approved than ever. The real risk isn’t getting one built, it's building one that doesn’t perform… or worse is difficult to manage. As California continues to streamline approvals through by-right legislation, more homeowners and investors are entering the space. The real challenge is no longer access, it’s execution.
In this session, Kisha Mitchell-Mellor shares lessons from building and operating multiple ADUs, including how to avoid common missteps, design for real demand, and manage units in a way that supports long-term income and flexibility.
This talk is for homeowners and investors who want to understand what actually works especially when the rental is in your or your tenant's backyard.
Then stick around after the presentation for networking and connection-building with like-minded professionals!
Bio: Kisha Mitchell-Mellor is a Real Estate Investor, Realtor®, and ADU Specialist who has built and operated multiple ADU projects across Northern California, with a focus on hybrid midterm rental strategy.
She got into ADU house hacking at a time when her family was in overwhelming debt and their home was their largest expense. By rethinking how they used their space, their home became an asset. That experience continues to shape how she supports homeowners and investors to make decisions about investing in ADUs.
She focuses on what happens after the build, who ADUs attract, and what it takes to manage them successfully over time.
