Join us for a case study for a piece of tech debt in the Meetup app, from its inception to its excision. We’ll go over how we recognized it, measured its severity, decided whether to fix it, decided how to fix it, made a business case for the related work, and more. Let the story of our trials and tribulations inform how you approach tech debt in your own projects.

Michael is a Senior iOS Engineer at Meetup, where he builds out new features to help create community. In a former life, he created FileMaker-backed PHP websites; he’s grateful every day to not be doing that any longer.

• Kotlin Multiplatform For iOS Developers
Kevin Galligan, President at Touchlab

Kotlin has exploded on the Android scene as a modern alternative to Java, but Kotlin was designed to be compiled to other platforms. Kotlin/Native has recently passed into 1.0 and the tools and libraries needed to build production Kotlin Multiplatform are starting to emerge. This talk will introduce what Kotlin MP is, how applications are structured, how to get started, and the current status of the ecosystem. Most of these talks tend to be by and for Android developers, so we'll be looking at things from a different perspective.

Kevin Galligan is President at Touchlab. He has 20 years of professional software development experience, and has been working on Android since the first public platform release. Kevin and Touchlab are deeply involved with the mobile developer community, running both the NY Android Developers meetup and the annual Droidcon NYC. He is currently focused on developing and evangelizing multiplatform native tools for the next generation of mobile development.
