Can We Talk About Failure? — Pre-Event to Fuckup Night Basel
Details
Dear IoT Basel Community,
I'm excited to finally announce our next meetup and this time it's a bit different. No sensors, no protocols, no batteries. Instead, a topic every one of us knows from the inside: failure.
Let's be honest: none of us has shipped an IoT project without a firmware update that bricked the fleet, a "quick" cloud migration that ate three weekends, or a prototype that worked perfectly in the lab and never again. We've all fucked up. The question is: can we actually talk about it?
That's exactly what this evening is about. In collaboration with BaselTech and Fuckup Nights Basel, we're hosting a pre-event to the Fuckup Night Basel on November 17 at the new FHNW Campus Dreispitz — the international format where founders, engineers and researchers openly share what went wrong and what they learned.
Jutta Jerlich, founder of Fuckup Nights Basel, will open with her talk "Can We Talk About Failure?"
Why we avoid speaking about mistakes, what it costs us, and how to do it better. Afterwards there's a moderated discussion, so bring your own war stories.
Expect to learn about:
- Why failure is so hard to talk about (in teams, companies and in public)
- What a healthy error culture actually looks like in practice
- How the Fuckup Nights format works, and how you can get on stage
As always, we'll wrap up with time for networking and an apéro in good company.
- Language: German/English, depending on the audience
- Free entry, limited seats — please register
- Doors: 18:30, talk starts 19:00, ends around 20:30, then bar
Looking forward to seeing you there and to hearing which of your projects went sideways.
Best regards,
Lukas
