IoT Meetup #43 - Balena.io on Managing your IoT devices with Docker

For our very first IoT Liverpool of the New Year we are pleased to welcome the team from Balena.io to talk to us about managing IoT devices using their embedded Docker framework.

We use Balena and OpenBalena extensively around DoES Liverpool to manage our devices, such as the Creality 3D printers in our workshop.

Balena provides a complete Git based workflow to allow you to create Docker containers for your IoT applications which are then "magically" built in the Cloud for various hardware platforms such as the Raspberry Pi and deployed onto the device fleets that you have out in the field.

This makes deploying to and managing your embedded devices easier than it's ever been!

• Will is primarily a backend engineer dealing with the more network-y parts of our stack and I’m also part of the devops/sre team.

• Rich is primarily focused on the balenaCloud solution but also including the openBalena product.

The talk will comprise

• Intro to Balena, who/what/when etc

• Overview of our lesser-known offerings, openBalena, Fin, tools etc

• A little demo to show the workflow, we'll bring in some HW and build a
  product up live.

• Open questions as we go

• Wrap up after and mingle if people want to quiz us on specifics etc
