IoT networks generate tremendous amounts of data. Applying AI at the network level using LLMs for data trend analysis, predictive analytics and issue identification seems a direct application of AI for such networks.
However, where things get interesting is when AI needs to be applied at the edge or on the IoT device itself, where there are restrictions on compute, memory, latency, power and cost.
These lead to new "intent" driven IoT applications with co-pilots that enable voice, chat, or text-based control and analysis for embedded systems.
Imagine a microwave could operate by simply asking it to cook food for a minute, or analyzing and controlling the crop health or irrigation needs for an agricultural sensor network by specific queries and instructions.
These require tiny LLMs or tinyML agents running on the embedded devices that can be trained on the specific device and provide local operational intelligence.
This talk will provide insights into the benefits and challenges of building such AI co-pilots for wireless IoT systems.
Bio:
Sridhar is CEO of Ennoia Technologies, a startup developing AI co-pilots for wireless.
Previously. Sridhar was SVP, Access Technologies at Mavenir Systems, where he led many efforts for Mavenir's Open RAN products involving the RAN, radio and RIC platforms including system engineering, customer engineering, radio integration, device testing and Open RAN technology standardization.
He was the one of the key technical architects supporting the Dish 5G SA Open RAN deployment. He was an initial employee at Ranzure Networks, a cloud RAN 5G startup.
He also had R&D roles in design, prototyping and standardization of 5G cellular and Wi-Fi systems at Samsung Research America, in UWB technology at WiQuest Communications and 3G/4G research at Nokia.
He was an associate editor for the Journal of Signal Processing Systems (Springer) and has held leadership positions in standardization bodies such as O-RAN Alliance, IEEE and WiMedia. He has co-edited multiple books, with a recent book on Open RAN in 2023.
He was an advisory board member for the Open RAN Center for Integration and Deployment (ORCID). He is a co-recipient of the IEEE 2017 Marconi Prize Paper award for his research on 5G mmWave systems.
He has co-invented more than 50 issued US patents.
He received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Rice University and is a senior member of IEEE.
The meeting location has been moved to SpringHill Suites near intersection of Geo. Bush and E. Renner Rd. (2 blocks south on Shiloh from the Methodist Hospital at Renner and Shiloh - see below for details). Come early and stay late if you can. Bar opens at 5 pm (self-paid). Program runs from 6 to 7:30 pm.
